Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in India

One year back, I deposited 16,500 INR in my friends bank account(i have a transaction proof), as deposit amount for 1BHK flat that we took together for lease. Now the contract/lease of the flat has finished(Both of our names were mentioned in the rental agreement, but i don't have a copy of that). He collected the deposit money from the house owner. But now, he is not returning my money to me. He neither answers my phone calls nor replies to my e-mails. The only proof i have is the bank transaction. Should i file a complaint in the nearby police station or should i go to the Consumer Court ? I am waiting for your valuable suggestions.

You should immediately lodge a Police complaint against your friend in the nearby local Police Station for quick recovery of your money.
