Dear Sir,

In reply to your query, we understand that you and your wife have agreed to have the divorce. If our understanding is correct, then you will need to draft a written contract in which you clearly mention that you have both agreed on the divorce. It would be also better (but not mandatory) to include in this agreement any financial settlement you may agreed upon in order not to have any pending financial issues after the divorce.

This agreement will be legalized by a public notary (كاتب العدل) and presented to the Lebanese Court.

The Court will check the validity of this agreement at the light of the US Law of the State where the marriage was concluded (therefore you would need to prove the content of this law in front of the Lebanese Court) and validate it, should it find it conform to the US law.

The Court will pronounce then the divorce, and you will be able to execute it at the matrimonial registry.

Hope that the above is satisfactory. Should you need any further details, you may send your request to our office at the following email address: [email protected]

Regards
