Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

commonlaw marriage

I live in Alabama. My ex husband since the divorce 2 yrs ago, spends 6-7 nights a week with me. We have separate houses and each of us have door keys. Are we common law married? What constitutes a common law marrige?

Re: commonlaw marriage

Do each of you have the intent to be married, permanent and exclusive of all others? Do you hold yourselves out as a married couple? When you introduce each other, do you say, "This is my husband/wife?" Do you file your taxes as a married couple (either jointly or separately)? If you can answer "yes" to all these questions, there is a good possibility that you could be considered common-law married.
