Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

Legal Separation

I want to know what red flags to look for in a Legal Separation. My husband is having papers drawn up that I have agreed to looking at. When I receive it next week, it will be in draft form. We have been married 21 years, 2 children (ages 16 & 18), both of us have never been married before. He is a general contractor, worth about 5 Million. He has a girlfriend and wants to build himself a house so that when we do divorce, I will not have any claim to it nor any ventures or projects from the legal separation forward. I don't mind the legal separation, but I just want to make sure that he is not trying to take advantage of me.

Re: Legal Separation

with your length of marraige (21)years and children (2) i would highly recommend that you retain your own attorney to review the papers that your husband's attorney is preparing for your signature. your husband's attorney does not represent you, his duty is to represent your husband. you need to retain an attorney also due to the size of your husbands estate. there are many things to watch for in a divorce some of them are; child support, visitation, periodic alimony, alimony in gross, health insurance, life insurance, property division, debt division and many other issues may be appropriate in your situation. you need to get legal advice before you sign anything.
