How to locate my deceased husband's asset account

My husband of a very short time really passed away, leaving numerous bills that are a daily struggle to pay. I know that he has some type of investment account but I don't know where to began searching for the account. Can you please help me as to what I need to do to locate the account so that I can pay my husband's bills? Thanks for your help. And he did tell me that he would be penalized if he touch the account too soon. How do you locate a deeased persons assets???

Did he leave a will by any chance? If not, research through his bank accounts, call them, etc. and play detective. If he did have such an account, he undoubtedly received periodic statements from them. When one comes in contact that institution.
