Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Alaska

Foreign Collection Agency

First Resolution Investment Corporation...has a PO Box in Seattle Washington but is in fact based out of Canada..all reside in Canada...they purchased a 10 year old credit card debt that should have been past the Statuate of Limitations but claimed one payment was made by a family member that cancelled the date...I have never seen proof of this...the original debt was for 4,872.92 and was first sold from Signet to Capital One in 1994..then was sold to First Resolution Investment Corporation in 2001..the intrest rate is 25.90%...and they recieved a judgement for over 15,000....Is this company legal in Alaska and is there any way I can settle this without filing bankruptcy which is my only alternative at this point??
