Legal Question in Family Law in Arizona

My 15 year old son has not been home for over a year and his father has encouraged a poor relationship between us. He has stolen stuff from my house, broken computers, beat up his brother, etc. Now he is "demanding" me to sign permission for him to get his driver's license. I said not until his behavior improves. His dad is now saying he is taking me to court to have me ordered to sign. Can a judge force that?

Yes, a judge can enforce that if the judge finds that you are unreasonably withholding your signature. In that case, the judge may also award attorney's fees to the father. However, the judge may side with you if you convince the judge that you are reasonably withholding your signature for good cause. Linking getting a permit to a child's behavior is a tool many parents use and it is not per se unreasonable.
