Legal Question in Family Law in Arizona

Can I ask for child support even after we choose no child support seven years ago? We have joint custody but due to the economy I am now low income and I need help with my son? My ex husband has a much higher income with no rent or electric bills to pay. He has never financially helped us in any way up to this point.

Yes, typically you can file a petition to establish child support even though there was a previous agreement of no child support. You can either follow the instructions/forms provided online at the Maricopa County Superior Court's website, or feel free to contact my office for a consultation. We do offer telephone consults.

Child support is always modifiable. BUt, you should meet with us soon. Every month you wait is a month you lose. Child support cannot be modified retroactively.

We can certainly help you consider and then pursue your options.

One of our attorneys can explain the issues and procedures better in person. As you can imagine, there is too much to cover via email. We offer free 1/2 hour consultations, in which we can discuss your matter in detail.

Please call us directly to discuss the specifics of your matter, or contact my assistant Alicia or my paralegal Jennifer to schedule your free 1/2 hour consultation.
