I have a easment way along the side of the owners property in front of my property he has just put up a fence accross the front of his land and now he is putting up a gate across the easment can he legaly fence me in ?

No, he cannot build anything on the restricted area which blocks your ingress and egress to your property. You should hire legal counsel as soon as possible and take action to block further action by him and to observe your legal duty to minimize damages.
