Legal Question in Family Law in Arkansas

My wife has joint custody with her mother of 3 grandchildren. Her mother recently passed away and the children have never lived with my wife. My wives father 74 years old is planning on keeping the kids as he has raised them all of there lives, one is 5 one is 8 and one is 11. The other grandparents, who have been involved but never kept them is starting to raise a little cain about not getting to keep them. He is pretty stubborn in his ways and refuses to let them stay at their house. Is there anyway to add him to the custody of the children without opening a can of worms so to speak? He is also afraid the mother who has lost custody not only of these 3 but also a new 2 year old and is pregnant with twins now will start a bunch of crap again....Please help with some advice , Please!
