Legal Question in Banking Law in California

Hi, i opened a bank account a year ago with my fiance and i put 1,300 and he put the same. we were saving for our wedding. things happened and i broke up. he transferred all the amount to his personal account and promised me that he will give back my part. so we went to bank and closed the account, but he did not give my money back. I asked him give my part back or i will get a lawyer. he said they cannot help you. he is a business owner and has 2 houses in his name. so do u think there is a way i can get back my money?????
