Legal Question in Banking Law in California

Ok, to start this question off, i understand i was being stupid, but money makes people do stupid things. But anyway, recently i accepted a job that was supposed to be for putting ads in newspapers. The people would send me a check, I cash it, then i take a commision out of the check. A few days ago i received the check and cashed it at my local Bank of America. The Bank said that they would hold the check a few days, I was ok with that. About two days later the bank closed my account for cashing a fraudulent check. Today the people that sent me the check are asking why i haven't made the transaction and are threatening to pursue legal action against me If i don't complete the transaction. I don't know what to do, or even if they can pursue legal action. Any help?

P.S yes i understand i was being stupid, just had to re iterate that.

If it weren't for people who used poor judgment, we lawyers would be out of business. Anyway, you weren't quite as foolish as the people who actually wired money to the scam artist. Those people owe their banks thousands of dollars. Visit your banker and apologize. Ignore the scam artists.
