Legal Question in Business Law in California

Certified Mail not responded

My client had a salon service in my shop and wrote a bad check. Certified letter demanding for payment was sent to my client correct address, but refused to act on it. And the certified mail was returned to me.

What should I do now?

Depending on the amount (i.e. is it worth pursuing?), you can file a small claims suit against your client for the value of the check and penalties that the law might allow under Civil Code section 1719. It might be worthwhile to hire an investigator to determine her appropriate address.

After you put up a sign that says No Checks Accepted, take her to small claims court.

Then send it again FedEX. If it comes back again, send it regular mail and be done with it. Then file suit to collect. Save all the returned items. Good luck.
