Legal Question in Business Law in California

Legal Length of time to charge a credit card

I work for an internet company and we do a lot of business as credit card payment types. Can you tell me how long in the eyes of the law we have to legally charge a credit card without notifying the customer? We receive a 30 day Authorization from the credit card company at the time of purchase , but we only bill per shipment. So alot of the items ship and the card is charged at diffrent times. Sometimes slipping thru the cracks, the charge after shipment is denied and we manually will charge the card at a later date. Is this legal to do 3, 6,9,or even 12 months after the item has shipped?
