Legal Question in Business Law in California

Social Networking Sites

I have an idea for a niche social networking website. Are there laws that govern the age of people that subscribe to the site? Moreover, what if they meet in person after meeting on the site? Would I be liable if something bad happened?

That's why you need disclaimer language on your site. This would address the age and liability issues. I have worked with other websites to develop appropriate legal language. The second part of this is web design because notice of the legal language is important. This is why I work with trusted web designers to coordinate how the language appears on the site. Call if you would like more information.

The legal problems of social networking via the Web is an evolving area of the law, and to advise you on the pitfalls and where things are headed would require days if not weeks of legal research and analysis.

In addition to what Ms. Cowin suggests, which is sound advice, I would use a personal-liability resisting form of business organization such as a corporation or LLC, and purchase all the business insurance recommended by a good agent with lots of business clients.
