Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

Dear LawGuru,

I'm the only female CADD Drafter who actually have done real work around the office for the past 5 years with this civil company. There are a few other male drafters in the office. My company runs on the 'buddy system' through out the years as I've noticed. The big bosses tend to keep his buddies who talk more than do work and layoff the hard working employees. I know it's not fair & not against any laws since this is a private company. But I just want to know what I should do if I'll be let go instead of the guys.

thanks,

Lindsay W.

Unfair treatment is not illegal, and is quite common. Only if it is provably illegal under the discrimination laws is there a case. IF you can somehow prove a female was terminated 'because of' gender', meaning for discriminatory reasons, not just 'unfair', then you would have a case. If men and women are uniformly 'unfairly' treated and terminated, how would you prove your gender claim valid? If it happens, and you think you can, feel free to contact me.
