Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

My question is, my husband and I went to a dealership which is one of those small street dealership. My husband makes enough for the car we got into. I said I worked and basically used my old pay stubs. I altered the numbers but I did USE to work at the job I said I was at. We put down 2500$ and had the car only a month when we tried making payment they had realized what was done with the pay stubs so they took the car back. And tried to say we had no say so in our money becuase of the lie. Can they hold our money the contract was basically broken. They are giving us a hard time in returning our money back.
