Legal Question in Constitutional Law in California

charged with a misdemeanor in petty theft! where do i go from here?!

I just recently got charged with a misdemeanor in petty theft at age 20. It was a huge and stupid mistake especially since the item was only $20. Ive always had a clean record and always stayed out of trouble. Is there any way to erase this charge from my record? Pay? Community Service? What should I say and shouldn't say to the jugde on my court date if I dont want to dig a deeper hole for myself but would really like to lower my punishment or possibly even erase this completely? Please help.

Everything you mention and want to accomplish would first have to start with a good defense. If the charges are dropped, the arrest may be sealed. If there is a conviction or probation granted, then since your charge was a misdemeanor, it can be successfully expunged most likely. We can give you more accurate information on your specific situation, if you contact us directly.
