I found a large twig inside my bag of 'Wonderful pistachios'. Not only was it disgusting, I could have choked to death. Do I have a legal case to sue the company?

Sure, for the value of the bag of pistachios you threw out. Legal cases are to recover for actual harm or losses, not some lottery you win by finding something wrong with a product.
