Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

I found a piece of metal in a can of diet pepsi I was drinking. I called the number on the can and they are sending me a box to return the can & metal to them. Should I send it to them and take the coupons and call it a day? It was a metal shaving about an inch long.

If you weren't injured, maybe that should be the end of it. If you were, and the piece of metal tore up your face and you wanted to get a lawyer and sue, you'd be using poor judgment to send them back the defective product (the only evidence).
