Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

refund on contract

Signed up for an exclusive dating service, over $7,000 for a membership. Purchased on AMEX card, had a telegram sent the next morning cancelling the service. Company refuses to answer phone calls and AMEX is not getting anywhere. The contract states that you have 3 days to cancel, as is the law I believe in California. What is the next step to get a refund on my credit card? Have a copy of the telegram and the courier has all of the details as to when it was delivered and signed for.

Re: refund on contract

If you can show AMEX that you're entitled to cancel the contract, AMEX should reverse the charges for you and put the ball in the other party's court. Let THEM prove you owe the money.

If AMEX won't help (because you complained too late, or for any other reason) you may have to sue to get your $7k back. Hopefully it is a company located near you.

Re: refund on contract

Your statement that "AMEX is not getting anywhere" doesn't make any sense. If you disputed the chargers and the vendor won't cooperate with AMEX, then AMEX has to reverse the charge. Is AMEX refusing to reverse the charge?
