Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

Retail carpet sales - liability for manufacturing defect

I bought and had installed carpet. Immediately the carpet was fuzzing excessively. I reported the problem to the retailer and they reported it to the manufacturer. The manufacturer sent an independent inspector who said that the carpet appeared to be fuzzing but that his tests could find no defect in the carpet. Based on that report, the manufacturer denied the claim. I want the retailer to put new carpet in, and pay for moving my furniture in and out. The retailer says no, they are not responsible for replacing a defective carpet. They only offer a one-year labor warranty, and there is no problem with the labor. Since they sold me the carpet, and it is defective, don't they have to replace it?
