Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

I signed up for a 9month contract with martial arts school for my son. My son was assaulted by another student twice. I stopped sending my son. Now i'm receving calls from collection agency. Do i have a defence?

Yes, tell them you could cnot ccontinue to send your son when he was getting beat up. Tell them you will sue them for your son's damages if they pursue you for the tuition.
