Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

In 2008 I signed a one year lease agreement for a house in California. In November of that year I left the house due to having a baby and had to move. I did not notify the property management company and did not pay that months rent or any month after, I just left. In January of 2014 I had a collection put on my credit report by a debt collecting agency. My question is this; Is there a statue of limitations for the property management company on the collection of my debt?

Thank You

Yes - generally 4 years with a written lease. Being past the statute of limitations, however, does not get it off your credit. An unpaid debt is an unpaid debt, regardless of whether it can be collected anymore. You also need to make sure they did not get a judgement against you by default. If they did, that is then good for ten years and can be renewed every ten until paid, and it carries 7% interest per year.
