Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

A creditor is threatening to sue me over an unsubstantiated $600 debt that occurred in CA back in 2011. I now live in FL at a temporary address off the records. If they cant locate me in order to serve me, does that mean they cannot proceed with the suit?

No it does not. Once they have demonstrated that they have made all reasonable efforts to locate and serve you without success, they can apply to the court and get permission to serve you by publishing notice in a newspaper approved by the court. Once they do that, if you haven't filed an answer to the complaint, they can get a default judgment and start looking for bank accounts, paychecks and any other money sources they can collect from.
