Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Old Debt

Out of the blue I received a letter from a company that ''purchased my account''. The account in question was opened in 1988 and the last payment was in 1994. They say I owe 5k. I think they are out to lunch. I have excellent credit and don't want this to screw up my credt..all the same, I don't believe I owe anything! What are my rights in this situation?

Re: Old Debt

The debt is probably barred by the Statute of Limitation. We would need to review the letter you received. You may have a claim under the Fair Debt Collection Act against the collection agency. Please call me if you have any more questions.

Re: Old Debt

The debt is probably past the statute of limitations. You should ignore the letter.
