Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Limited Civil

I received a limited civil summons for a past due cc. I stopped paying because I had little income and could barely pay rent and car payment, utilities ect... It was filed on Jul 3, 2008. I received it on Jan 15th, 2009. I had no other contact with either the cc company or third party collector prior to this. I know I had a cc with the company, but don't know how much was due. They are seeking money owed at a rate of 11% from 05/31/05, attorneys fees. I just don't know what to do. Do I call the attorney to see if they will work with me on a payment plan or see if they will settle for something lower? What form do I need to file first before the 30 days are up? Please any help at this point would be greatly appreciated.

The collection firm wants you to ignore the lawsuit; in fact they depend on it. Fight back and defend yourself. Just dont be surprised how quickly they fold (dont worry -- we wont remind you we told you so).
