Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Purchased a new car. Note in my name only. My boyfriend paid the down payment with his corporate check. Check bounced. He has not made the check good. Auto dealer suing me and his corporation in small claims court. Am I liable for this bad check? Auto dealer says I am because the car was sold to me.

You signed a purchase contract the included an agreement to make a down payment. While it is unfortunate that your boyfriend hasn't stepped up, you are responsible for making the down payment. You probably aren't like for the bad check charges and treble damages, but the bounced check is a breach of the contract.
