Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Stolen Identity

From the time I was 2, until I was 18 or 19, my parents were destroying my credit. I've tried clearing it up, but to no avail. I also have 2 bankruptcies that my parents filed in my name. I heard I could get a new social security number but when I asked at the local SSA office, they pretty much told me I was out of luck. How could I clear my name without spending tons of money so I can form a proper life for myself?

Re: Stolen Identity

I believe that the State of California has an identity theft division. Perhaps they can put you on the right track. If you were a minor at the time all of the credit was provided, you should be able to insert written explanations into your credit reports.
