Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

i was sexually assaulted and reported the crime to police. They were given a description, known associates and former and current places of work. They claim they could not find him and one year later, after speaking with the DA that said the police must first bring in the perp for questioning before they can prosecute, I have asked the police again to seek this individual out, and still nothing. Today i am sending away for a police report to give to the local newspaper in the hope that they will publish a story and prompt the Sheriff's office to action. Any advice on how to get the Sheriff's Office to, as the DA I spoke to said "Do their job"?

In this situation I would suggest Hiring a private detective to do an independent investigation of the incident and then take the proof of the incident to the District Attorney's office and the Sheriff's Office. Especially if you know the identity of the known associates. It would seem that would be the best way to gain the identity of the perpetrator.

The Sheriff's Office really should be investigating this incident. You may want to contact a personal injury attorney or a civil rights attorney regarding a law suit against the County or the Sheriff's office for negligence. However a government tort claim must be filed within 6 months or it is time barred.

Good luck

You might try calling the sheriff's office and ask to speak to THE sheriff for the county.
