Legal Question in Elder Law in California

information about father's medical condition

My father was taken to a hospice facility last night and

when I called today to get information on how he was

doing and his prognosis, I was told that they could not

give me any information as the only two people

authorized for this was his wife, my stepmother and his

youngest daughter. Besides her, there is an older

sister and myself. Neither my older sister or I can get

any information. Please help.

Re: information about father's medical condition

Assuming that your father is located in California, it sounds like your stepmother and sister have a power of attorney that restrict the release of information. If these two will not cooperate, your only option may be to petition the court to have a conservator appointed, who could insure that have access to this type of information. Please contact our office if we can be of further assistance.
