Legal Question in Entertainment Law in California

I do lighting for large DJ events and i am 20 years old. This makes it impossible to setup in some bars and do a gig. Is there a permit or a written consent form I could give to the club owner so that I can preform at the venues?

Hello,

Sorry, the only persons exempted from the "no minors employed on the premises" rule are minor musicians. You have said that you do lighting for DJs. That doesn't fall within the definition of musician, so your answer is NO. There aren't any permits or consent forms that will do the trick either. CA law is clear on this.

Now, if you're truly a DJ, then there's a little wiggle room to qualify as a "musician".

See, California Business and Professions Code, sections 25663(a) and 25663.5.
