This is a serious concern and an excellent point to raise at such an early stage in acquiring the house. Signing the quitclaim by itself does not it under California law create a separate property ownership. If you believe that you should be included on the deed, now is the time to change the deed to show that you and your husband are husband-and-wife co-owners of the property.

If your husband is concerned about securing the down payment as a separate property interest, you can enter into a written agreement confirming the same but treat the rest of the house is a community asset. It would be in your best interests to meet with an experienced family law attorney to explore your legal options.
