Driver License Suspension Re: Child Support
I rec'd a letter from DMV saying they have suspended my driver license due to non payment of child support. I am riding my bike to work until I get this fixed but my employer told me if I cannot drive then they might have to replace me. I do not want to lose my job. What is the best way to proceed. I am not trying to shirk my responsibilities - child support was recently being taken from my unemployment and now I am lucky to work and do not want to lose this job. Help! And quick! I cannot afford to lose my entire check to child support obviously, but would rather work out an amount with the DA then have to appear in court. Is this possible?

If you have an attorney and a job you can get your license returned within days. (Based upon the court order having been issued by a San Diego Court) Done it many times. Have done it with a phone call and a follow-up hearing, after the license has been returned. Good Luck, Pat McCrary

You can try to work it out with Child Support Services, but others who I know who have tried this have only had limited or no success. It would not be too difficult to get a court order giving you your license back and getting a reasonable order requiring you to pay back arrears in affordable monthly payments. Also, you may be entitled to a modification.
