By "paper work" I must guess you mean to get a divorce. You can file in California if you have lived here six months or more. It doesn't matter where he is as far as where you file. You file in the county you have lived in for at least four months at the Superior Court, Family Law division. If you found us on the web, you should be able to find the website for the court in your county and they will have information there about how to get help filing divorce papers. Look for "Family Law Facilitator" or "Family Law Self Help."

The harder part for you is going to be serving the papers on him when you don't know where he is. The court is going to make you try hard to find him. You can't just say "I don't know where he lives" and be done with it. If you can show the court you tried hard to find him and still can't find him, the court will let you publish notice of the divorce case in the news paper. Then if he does not respond you can go ahead with the divorce anyway.
