once a person completes probation (registered sex offender) can he/she try to get some type of visitation or try for partial child custody?

You can always try. It is unlikely you will get vistation if the the child was the victim unless the child is old enough to consent and wants to see you. Even then it would probably be very occasional and supervised. Likewise if the victim was some other child, supevised visitation is probably the best you could hope for. If the victim was an adult, then maybe you could get some normal custodial time, depending on the details of your crime and the psych evaluations.
