Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

I am a plaintiff in a small claims actions and I was wondering if I can have my secretary write an affidavit or declaration, sign it "under penalty of perjury" and submit it to the court for consideration by the judge. I am worried I might not be complying with some special requirement to have it properly considered. Can I do it just like that?
