Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Received a summons Cross-Complaint that says I have 30 days to respond. Says my response must be in proper legal form. Went to the www.courtinfo.ca.gov/selfhelp but I am unsure if I am using the correct form. This is a civil case exceeds $10,000 but does not exceed $25,000. Case has to do with a contractor who hired me and two guys from a temp agency to work on a deck that the home owner now has issues with. I did the underpinnings and they screwed off the deck with materials provided, so the contractor is just naming everyone involved on the job including the Meeks and the manufacturer. I just need to give a response in "legal form" and have no idea what that entails. Started filling out PLD-PI-003.

The Judicial Council of California summons form suggests that all you need to do to defend your lawsuit is to fill out some form. Unfortunately this is untrue. Consult an attorney before filing anything with the court. If you have a written agreement with the contractor bring it to the attorney's attention.
