Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I have an employee that is salary. We have never had an automatic timeclock until this week. Does my salary employee need to clock in and out daily. Also, I have employees who travel. How do I handle them clocking in and out when they are on the road?

First, you need to make sure that you have properly classified the salaried employee as exempt from overtime. If the employee cannot be properly classified as exempt, they must be paid hourly, not salary. An employee properly classified as exempt and paid salary is not required to clock in and out (but doing so may help you track their hours better for your own edification.)
