Legal Question in Employment Law in California

one employee working for two different corp. owed by same owner

This one employee works 8hrs at one company and then goes and works another 4 hrs at the oter company. Both companies are corporations under the same ownership or stock holder. Now does this employee receive a separate paycheck from each company or should the other 4hrs worked at the second company count as overtime and be given just one check.

Unless it's a sham arrangement designed to subvert the overtime laws (same job, work place), then straight time for the second job seems appropriate, regardless of the ownership of the second company.
