Legal Question in Employment Law in California

how long can the punishment be delayed

i violated the company rule (not serious) the management decided to suspend me from work for a week .However because they really need me for the work by that time, they ignored my violation , and let it go . I thought it was closed.

Almost one year later, they dont need me anymore, they brought back that problem , and suspended me. How long can the punishment be delayed ?

Why don't they just fire you already so you can collect unemployment. Seems to me that a suspension without pay is a termination. Perhaps you should write a letter -- certified return receipt -- asking them to clarify the suspension, i.e. for how long, and what happens once it's over.
