Legal Question in Employment Law in California

A former superior has spread rumors that I was having an affair and "ran off" with our former department head. I have not worked there since 2008 but these rumors continue to make their way back to me. Do I have any actionable recourse?

If you think you can calculate the harm from this behavior, give me a call. For example, if you have lost a business contract or relationship as a result of these false rumors.
