Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I told my manager I wanted to switch to a position other than cashier. I walked in one day and she said, this is your last day since you 'gave notice' 2 weeks ago. I didn't know what to do or say because I had not quit but the paperwork was filed and done! Do I have any case for wrongful 'termination'? Thank you!

No. Unless you have an agreement that you will be kept employed for a specific amount of time, or will only be terminated for just cause, which virtually no employees in CA have, you can be fired at any time for any reason, or no reason, as long as it is not a pretext for discrimination against you based on gender, race, etc. Whether you quit or not may be an issue in whether or not you can collect unemployment, but it does not make your termination wrongful. Either you quit or you were fired, but either way they have violated no law in ending your employment.
