Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I have not worked since march this year. I got injured at work. I am diagnosed with right carpal tunnel syndrome 2016. Surgery is scheduled june 2nd. in 2007 a lead door fell on my hand and fractured the plate at work. after the surgery there will be a future surgery to replace it. I was born with a right hand birth defect, and my hand has beaten me up over the years. I lost a lot of motor skills and now a possibility that I may not return to work. Liberty mutual is working on disability checks, but in the mean time I am starting to fall behind on mortgage and car payments. I have a family to support. is there anything I can do to protect my family financially? Or a way to collect on damages? thank you. there is more info I can give. thanks..

You are entitled to temporary disability benefits which is limited to 2/3 of your salary and if you are lucky that the insurance company's doctor is willing to certify you for disability you may be able to collect up to 2 years. I recommend that when you are done with all your recommended surgeries you go through an Agreed Medical Examination process in which you can settle your case with a compromise and Release.
