Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Cleaning Fees

Two weeks before moving we received a paper telling us that they charge a $100 cleaning fee and a $70 rug cleaning fee. By the time I was told about this fee I had already cleaned the apartment (the fee is not listed in our lease & they received 30 days notice). I was told I would still be charged the fee because everyone paid it and it was a disinfection fee. I have moved from other rentals before (sadly not California). Is this a law in California that says I have to pay for this?

Thanks.

Re: Cleaning Fees

By your agreement, you are required to pay for necessary clean up and preparation to re-lease the premises. These charges appear to be reasonable. If you dispute, then, you would have to file in small claims. The local courthouse will have information and documents to help you. Good luck and thanks for inquiring.
