Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

My ex girlfriend an I rented a house we were both on the lease. The relationship ended an I moved out before the lease was up. She is suing me for half of the rent since I moved out. The landlord did change the locks for her shortly after I left to help her keep me out of the home. Am I still liable for the rent money she is seeking?

It depends upon what your agreement with your girlfriend was for the payment of rent. If she can prove that you agreed (orally or in writing) to pay 1/2 the rent, then she may be able to establish liability on your part for part of the rent. To answer this question fully, you need to review all of the facts, including a copy of the lease, with a local real estate attorney.
