Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

I was invited from a friend to come and stay in his spare bedroom until I got up from my feet. after 6 months of being there. I was locked out and unable to gain access to my belongings. I had a couple of deputy's assist me to get in. He changed the locks on me. For no reason that was explained. He had my vehicles hauled away, didn't give me an explanation nor my keys so that I could remove them. I have to file a lawsuit againts this so called friend. If I had enough notice I would of moved out. I didn't pay cash rent but exchanged labour for that room. I need my vehicles back and my property and there is a police report and he admitts that he locked me out and didn't file anypaper work for the eviction.

yes sue him. He has to give notice and then file for unlawful detainer.
