Can I get my landlord to change my carpet after 8 years

Hi,

Can I get my landlord to change my carpet after 8 years that I am living in the same apartment. The carpet has been washed but is toxic and I would like to know if there is way to change it????

I believe the requirement is for carpet to be changed every 5 years in a rental property, but I am not 100% certain without performaing some research. This may be the requirement when there is a new tenant as well, again, I would have to research it to know for certain.
