Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

My new lease is due to begin on March 1, 2010. I signed the lease on February 2, 2010 for a six month term to begin March 1, 2010. The office had already signed the lease when they sent it to us. I have since changed my mind and want to change it to a mont-to-month lease. Well, my roomate already turned the lease in without telling me. Since they have it in their posession and it has already been signed by both parties, can I resind the lease papers that haven't began and have them change it to month-to-month? or, is it already legally binding since it has been signed by both parties?
