Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

I live in an apartment complex in San Diego, CA and they want to do renovations in my apartment between 8am � 5pm, for 5 days. This is to re due the pluming for their upcoming cosmetic remodel. I received a notice 2 week before the planed work. I'm in a single studio apartment unit and have been living here for 10 months out of my 12 month lease. The leasing office said �You and your pet will not be able to be in the apartment on the first day between 8am � 5pm�. My dogs are on the lease. For the remaining four days they said �There will be a lot of activity happening in your home during the day�. They said �You can sleep in your home every night�. I work nights and this is impossible for me because I get my sleep in the day. I have an extremely tight budget and can�t afford to board the dogs or get a motel anywhere. I have always paid rent on time plus and extra $100 for the pets each month. Is this legal for them to make me leave my home to remodel without giving me any kind of credit or paying for a hotel/motel?

They have to provide you with an alternate place to live. I suggest speaking with a tenant rights advocate in your area to make the landlord comply.
